Letter from the President

Greetings and Happy New Year Everyone!

I pray that your holidays were awesome, filled with happiness and blessed. Although we're in the mist of Pandemic we had a very prosperous 2021. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all that we accomplished in 2021 despite the pandemic. Please see our awesome accomplishments below:

  • April

    • We received a grant from the Alabama Historical Commission November 2020.

      • The grant enabled us to bring the electrical system in the white building up to code.

      • We Installed new light fixtures and painted the ceiling in two classrooms and the foyer.

      • Installed a fence around Mr. Savage's grave and we included a plaque.

  • June

    • We hosted a successful Walk-A-Thon and Juneteenth Celebration.

  • August

    • We partnered with Highway 22 Podcast Founders to host a Kickball Tournament.

  • September

    • We hosted a shoe give-a-way with shoes donated by The Worship Center Christian Church, Birmingham and Division 12 Consulting.

  • November

    • We honored our ancestors and founders by hosting a Founders' Day Program.

  • December

    • Christmas Bags were given to our community elders and stockings were stuffed and given to the children in our area.

As you can see we had a fun and successful 2021. However, we would like to set our goals even higher this year, 2022.  We know that we have enough alumni members in and out of Coosa County to ensure that we continue our improvements and get the building and grounds in the condition that our ancestors and we would be very proud of.

Many thanks to our community, local Alumni, out of town Alumni,  and sponsors from Coosa, Tallapoosa, Talladega and other cities and counties for helping us to ensure all of our events were successful. To God be the glory!!!

Because of our various ages, our memories of JD Thompson are very different. The beauty of it is that we all should still have very fond memories and maybe some that are not so fun ðŸ˜€.   What a great and meaningful time we all had while attending there. What awesome teachers, counselors, principals, bus drivers and even lunchroom workers we had to teach us, support us and help us to build the rich history that we remember today.

Thank you all for all your support and all that you will continue to do to help ensure that we have a strong, sustainable and serving Alumni Association.

May God continue to richly bless you and your family in 2022 and beyond.

Sincerely,

JoEtta Burton Maxwell
