"In 1931, my father (Walter Brookens) drove the first school bus to pick up students for the Coosa County Training School. He was the first Black school bus driver in Coosa County."

"I enjoyed Field Day, I did the high jump event. Mrs. Hassie Thompson taught cooking and sewing, we made dresses in her class for a fashion show and she had the students cook food for P.T.A. and Teacher meetings."
